Partner Spotlight: Melanoma Research Alliance advances melanoma trials

Antidote’s mission is to connect patients with medical researchers so that medical breakthroughs may occur. Our strategy includes partnering with patient advocacy and nonprofit organizations. Antidote Match is our clinical trial matching software that we provide to these groups at no charge. This helps patients and caregivers find new research opportunities and quickly connect with clinical trials.

We’re highlighting our partnership with Melanoma Research Alliance, the largest nonprofit funding melanoma cancer research. Nearly 100,000 people will be diagnosed with melanoma by 2023. It remains the most deadly type of skin cancer. We hope that the MRA Clinical Trial Locator-powered Antidote will allow research studies to engage with patients and advance knowledge about melanoma prevention, treatment, and more.

Clinical trials for melanoma are important.

It is a common misconception that clinical trials are only for patients who have tried everything else. To advance medical research, it is vital to dispel this. Jamie Goldfarb is a cancer survivor who said it best when she spoke to MRA. “[Clinical Trials] are not something you do on a random basis after you have tried everything else.” It would be best if you considered them when making your first treatment decision because they will ensure you get cutting-edge treatment.

What you need to know before participating in a melanoma trial

It can be hard for those who have never participated in research to understand what to expect during a clinical trial. What you should know:

Potential participants are screened after finding a study that interests them. This allows researchers to ask questions and ensure the study is right for them.

Participants will receive an informed consent form that certifies they have read and understood the trial and that all of their questions have been answered.

Participants will attend study appointments after signing the paperwork. These are similar to doctor’s appointments but with more attention.

Staff at the site may ask participants to keep notes on their feelings or take part in the trial.

Volunteers are always free to leave an event at any time for any reason.
