After lung cancer diagnosis, turn to art and research

Antidote’s work directly impacts the lives of our patients. Hearing their stories reminds us why we do what we do.

Nina Beaty is one of the people who has shared her story. She was diagnosed with lung cancer. It is one of the two main types of lung cancer, and patients are usually given three to six months of life. Nina’s prognosis did not improve despite multiple rounds of radiotherapy. Her medical team decided to look into clinical trials after exploring other options.

She eventually enrolled in a trial of immunotherapy to investigate a new type of treatment for small-cell lung carcinoma. Her story was told to us while the study took place, and her positive outlook (and artwork) inspired all of us. Learn more about her journey by watching the video below:

Nina’s advocacy for lung cancer screenings, clinical trials, and more has continued since discovering the success of her research study. She also launched the EmPat Project, where she uses her artistic talent to create hand-drawn animated gifs that communicate the realities of cancer treatment.
