Running wastewater can remove any negative energy from the stone and return it to the earth. While natural running water is the best option, it’s also possible to rinse your stone with tap water.
Make sure your stone is fully submerged no matter what water source you have. When your stone is dry, pat it dry.

This is for: hard stones, such as quartz
This is not for: stones that are soft or brittle, such as selenite and kyanite.
Saltwater
Salt has been used throughout history to absorb negative energy and expel negativity.
A bowl of saltwater is a good idea if you live near the ocean. Mix a tablespoon of sea salt, rock salt, or table salt in a water bowl.
Allow your stone to soak for at least a few hours. When dry, rinse and dry.
This is for: Hard stones such as amethyst and quartz.
This is not for stones that are porous or soft.
Brown rice
This can be used to remove negativity from a safe and controlled environment. This method is especially useful for protective stones like black tourmaline.
Fill a bowl with brown rice, and place your stone underneath the rice. After the cleansing, dispose of the rice as soon as possible. The rice has absorbed the energy that you are trying to eliminate.

Natural light
While ritual cleansing is usually centered around specific points in the lunar or solar cycle, you can cleanse your stone anytime.
Your stone should be set out before it gets dark and brought in by 11 a.m. to allow it to soak in the sun and moonlight.
Exposure to direct sunlight for too long can cause the stone’s surface to weather. Make sure you come back in the morning.
Place your stone directly on the ground if you are able. This will allow you to cleanse the earth further. You can ensure they don’t get disturbed by wildlife and passersby wherever they may be.
Give the stone a quick rinse afterward to eliminate any dirt or debris. Pat dry.
This is for most tumbled stones
This is not for: bright stones like amethyst in sunlight; or soft stones such as celestite and halite that might be damaged by inclement conditions.
